Universitas Malikussaleh (Unimal),  has signed a Memorandum of  Understanding with Medcom.id in Jakarta on Thursday August 15, 2019  as a follow up to the discussion held earlier. Medcom.id or known as PT Citra Multimedia Indonesia is a holding company that hosts broadcasting companies like Metro TV, Media Indonesia, and Indocateur.

The ceremony took place at the Grand Metro TV office in Kedoya, West Jakarta. The MoU was signed by the Rector of Unimal, Dr. Herman Fithra ST, MT, IPM and PT Citra Multimedia Indonesia's Chief Director, Mohammad Mirdal Akib. It was witnessed by the Head of the Public Relations and External Relations Unit of Unimal, Teuku Kemal Fasya and Board of Directors of Medcom including Avian Pranantha, ArieSuditomo, and IndraMaulana.

In his speech, Mr. Akib mentioned that he warmly welcomes this collaborative effort which has become part of Medcom's commitment to building the nation and advancing human values ??and justice. Recently, he added, Medcom had sent a group of children affected by the conflict in Mindanao to Sekolah Sukma Bangsa in Aceh so that they can develop and progress, and not be inflicted by the conflict.

"Moreover, the owner of Media Indonesia and Metro TV, Surya Paloh, is an Acehnese, and he is very happy to have people from Aceh taking part in this corporation," said Mirdal.

On this occasion, the Rector of Unimal, Herman Fithra, stated that he is pleased with this collaboration because it would strengthen the relations among higher education institutions outside Java Island with major industrial centers in Java, especially in the field of journalism and broadcasting industry. Herman also declared that Unimal can now be entitled as  “people's campus,” because those from economically-disadvantaged families are able to continue their education at the university.

"Unimal is also an oasis of diversity, because not only we accommodate students from different regions such as Papua, NTT, NTB, but also from different religious background. This is something that we need to maintain at all times, including not allowing discriminatory practices to live on our campus, said Herman.

The signing of the MoU was also followed by the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by the Head of Public Relations and External Relations Unit of  Unimal, Teuku Kemal Fasya, M.Hum and the Head of Human Resources Management of  PT Citra Multimedia Indonesia, Avian Pranantha. This collaboration covers the utilization and development of human resources in the broadcasting field, one of which is the I Generation Apprentice Program or an internship program for the duration of six and twelve months.

For students who are selected for this internship program, Medcom will provide allowance and once-a-day meal, while Unimal will provide placement facilities. These students are those who will have finished the thesis examination or are in their final year, to ensure that the program doesn’t clash with lecture schedule.

At the end of the ceremony, Medcom invited Unimal to tour the facilities including the broadcast room, production room, control room, and others. This milestone hopefully can elevate the spirit of inclusiveness and pro-change for Unimal that was proclaimed from the beginning of Herman Fithra's leadership, and become something great in the near future.[tkf]
