UNIMAL NEWS | Lhokseumawe – Taekwondo athletes from Syiah Kuala University (USK) achieved the overall championship title at the 2023 POMDA Aceh in both men's and women's taekwondo events, held on the evening of Sunday (17/9/2023).

The competition unfolded at Lhokseumawe City's Cunda Uteunkot Academic Center Building. Syiah Kuala University secured the General Champion title in Taekwondo with a tally of 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, and 4 Bronze Medals. Following closely behind was Samudra Langsa University (Unsam) with 3 Gold Medals and 2 Bronze Medals, Bina Bangsa Getsempena University (UBBG) with 2 Gold Medals, Ar-Raniry State Islamic University with 1 Gold Medal, 3 Silver Medals, and 1 Bronze Medal, and Aceh Polytechnic, Gajah Putih University, each earning 1 Gold Medal.

Taekwondo athletes from Malikussaleh University (Unimal) managed to secure only 1 Silver Medal and 3 Bronze Medals. Unimal's male athlete in the Men's Under 63 Kg category, M Satria Pradana Padang, claimed the sole Silver Medal. The Bronze Medals were earned by Fardhan Aprizal in the Under 58 Kg category, Dzaky Almuflih in the Men's Under 74 Kg category, and Saffanah Thahirah Dhiya'an in the Women's Under 57 Kg category.

Johari MH, the Taekwondo Sports Coach at Unimal, commented that despite not capturing a gold medal in taekwondo, Unimal's athletes exhibited exceptional performances. They demonstrated outstanding abilities in the 2023 Aceh POMDA competition.

"We are thankful that Unimal's athletes secured 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in men's singles, along with 1 bronze in women's singles. Hopefully, in the upcoming year, we can send our athletes to POMNAS in 2024," Johari expressed. [rky]
