UNIMALNEWS | Lhokseumawe - Universitas Malikussaleh secured 2 gold medals in the Chess sports category during the Aceh 2023 Regional Student Sports Week (POMDA), held at the Cut Meutia Hall, Bukit Indah Campus, Lhokseumawe.

In the Women's Individual Chess category, the gold was won by Yuni Herinda, while the gold for the Best Board was earned by Fahriadi. Unimal also obtained 9 silver medals and 1 bronze medal from some categories.

Zulkifli MH, the Chess sports category coordinator, mentioned that out of the 42 participants from 11 universities in the Chess category, only Universitas Syiah Kuala, Universitas Malikussaleh, and IAIN Zawiyah Cot Kala, Langsa, secured gold medals.

"We congratulate the students for their achievements in the Chess sports category. We hope that the spirit for Chess sports continues to thrive in Aceh," he stated.

It's worth noting that several sports categories of the Aceh 2023 Regional Student Sports Week held at Universitas Malikussaleh have concluded.

As of Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the current top of the medal tally is held by Universitas Syiah Kuala with 22 gold medals, followed by Universitas Bina Bangsa Getsempena with 10 gold medals, Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry with 8 gold medals. Universitas Malikussaleh is in the fourth position with 7 gold medals.

In the fifth position of the current tally is Universitas Samudra Langsa with 5 gold medals, Universitas Almuslim Bireuen with 3 gold medals, Universitas Teuku Umar Meulaboh with 3 gold medals, Universitas Gajah Putih Takengon with 2 gold medals, followed by other participating universities.
